For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community...
Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.
But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…
Let me get my soapbox.....
I have to admit that I am an Anne Bishop fan.
Her Black Jewels series was always in my backpack during high school, and they are stack somewhere in my closet. So when The Others Series hit shelves I was stoked.
Earth is different in this series. There are new entities, but unsurprisingly the same old d-bags of humanity who always think they are better than that which is bigger than them, occupying the world.
What I love about the series is that Meg as a heroine isn't full of herself, and is still finding out about the world alongside us readers. Simon, and his Courtyard of Others are just fabulous, and every time one of these Others dies it is a truly sad event.
Anne Bishop weaves just a captivating to reality for humanity and those that share it with humans. Between the new characters and events that have been weaving through this series, I cannot wait to see what is in store for us in Marked in Flesh.
Waiting a year between releases gave us time to reread the first three books in the anticipation of this March release, and each time I read them I realized something new in the world building.
In the fifth novel of the captivating Rhymes with Love series from New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Boyle, a young woman’s hopes of a match encounter a wickedly handsome complication…
Lavinia Tempest has been eagerly anticipating a spectacular Season. But one disastrous pile-up on the Almack’s dance floor derails all her plans. Add to that, the very stunning revelations about her mother’s scandalous past have become the ton’s latest on dits. Lavinia’s future has gone from shining bright to blackest night in one misstep.
Alaster “Tuck” Rowland admits he’s partly to blame for Lavinia’s disastrous debut. But it’s not guilt that compels him to restore her reputation. Rather, he’s placed a wager that he can make Lavinia into of the most sought-after ladies in London. Who better than an unrepentant rake to set Society astir?
Tuck’s motives are hardly noble. But in teaching the lovely Lavinia how to win any man she wants, he suddenly finds himself tangled in the last place he ever imagined: in love.
